Artist's Statement
My interest in photography goes back to my early high school years when my older brother, Alan Eckert
(who is an excellent photographer), helped me select and purchase my first 35 mm SLR camera. More recently I have moved exclusively to a digital SLR format. My focus is on form, shape, color, and texture, which results in a level of abstraction even in my most representational images. I am very influenced by the work of early black and white masters such as Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and Minor White. But I am also very influenced by the work of modern color masters such as Pete Turner, Eric Meola, and Elliot Porter whose images are characterized by rich, saturated colors and a bold graphic sense. I approach photography as a process of "painting with light". I live in Falls Church, Virginia.
